A visit to an Early Years Playgroup is about having fun together.  Explore, create, read, sing and build with your children!

OEYC London North Centre Programs:

A monthly calendar shows the schedule for drop-in and registered (limited attendance) playgroups and any changes in hours.

July/August 2010 Centre Playroom Calendar

The centre is closed on Saturdays of long weekends.  For summer hours, please see the News page.  The regular Playroom Hours are as follows. 

Monday: 9:30 a.m. to Noon
Tuesday: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Friday: 9:30 a.m. to Noon, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • An infant area allows parents to enjoy their little ones away from active play areas while having a clear view of the playroom.
  • Playroom learning centres enhance problem solving skill development; sensory play enhances cognitive and fine motor skill development; physical play equipment increases large motor skill development.
  • Story times improve literacy and language skills and circle times offer songs, music and movement to enhance motor, language and social skill development.
  • Children’s activity workshops provide skill development in math and science concepts; nature and the environment; health and nutrition; language and culture that are hands-on learning and fun for all.
  • Workshops and seminars for adults are facilitated by Staff as well as other early years professionals. 

P L A Y R O O M   G U I D E L I N E S

We encourage all families to follow these health and safety guidelines to LEARN, PLAY and GROW together.

• Supervise your children in all areas of the playroom.
• Wear slippers, socks or indoor shoes inside the playroom.
• Clean activity areas before you leave.
• We strive to be a PEANUT FREE ZONE!
• All food and drink stay in the snack area.  Bring your own thermal mug for coffee and tea.
• Leave tables, highchairs, chairs and floors clean after use.
• Ensure that children always wash their hands after using the washroom.
• If you are ill or your child is ill, do not come to the Centre.  If symptoms are evident staff will request that you leave.

Centre Program Descriptions

•TOT TIME CIRCLE - Toddlers
Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. (except during special events).  Songs, fingerplays, stories and activities for children 3 years and under with parents and/or caregivers.
•PRESCHOOL STORYTIME - Preschool
Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. (except during Family Math Series).  Children 3 to 6 years join their friends for stories, puppetry, songs and games.
•THE FAMILY CIRCLE - Family
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11 a.m.  A time for the whole family to join in for action songs and fingerplays, followed by a story.
•BABY SONGS - Infants
Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.  Join us in the activity room for tickle songs, exploration of soft and safe equipment and soothing music.  Older children will be supervised in the playroom to allow for baby time.
•FRENCH DROP-IN PLAYGROUP – Everyone welcome.
Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  The following playgroup is offered on Thursdays as a support to French speaking families.  All families are welcome for an introduction to a second language!
“LES P’TITS FOUS DU FRANÇAIS” GROUPE DE JEU EN FRANÇAIS.
Jeudi de 9h30 à 11h30.  Familles ayant des enfants âgés entre 0 et 6 ans, venez chanter, jouer, écouter des histoires et bricoler en français. Le groupe de jeux est ouvert aux familles francophones mais aussi à toute personne désirant découvrir une autre langue.
•HOME CHILD CARE PLAYGROUP - Caregivers
Fridays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  An ongoing program exclusively for caregivers – Bring your children 0-6 years to explore a variety of early learning activities and network with other home caregivers.  A time to check out resource ideas and find out what’s happening in the community.

On-Site Community Partner Programs

WELL BABY AND CHILD CLINIC
Each Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., families with children 0-6 years can visit our newly combined Well Baby and Child Clinic.  You can drop-in to get free information, advice and support from a public health nurse.
ALL KIDS BELONG
On the second Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11:15 a.m., a Resource Consultant will answer your questions on child development issues such as fine motor, toilet training, speech and language, school readiness, discipline issues, sleep-time routines, and ages & stages.  Check the date and drop in.
VANIER CHILDREN’S SERVICES
On the fourth Tuesday of every month, from 10 to 11:15 a.m., a staff from Vanier Children’s Services will be available to answer questions about family relationships, attachment and behavioural concerns.  Check the date and drop in!

Young Moms & Children Program
Every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., we open the playroom up for moms under the age of 22 and their children. 

Limberlost Families
Every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Childreach facilitates a mother-child program with crafts, music, storytime, activities, snack and parenting information in Unit 135.
