WILD CHILD: Nature Prescription

A father and daughter walk into a forest. In the background tall trees grow.

Did you know that doctors can now prescribe time in nature to their patients?

This practice is gaining popularity across the world and research continues to show that time outside has big benefits.

Time in nature helps improve physical health. When we head outside we move more, we bend, walk, and climb, but we also experience measurable improvements in our bodies like lower blood pressure.

Especially important is the improvements in mental health. When we spend time outside, especially in spaces where we notice things that make us slow down and say “wow” people show decreases in depression, anxiety, and loneliness.

This week challenge yourself to head outside regularly. Whether you take a quick walk around your neighbourhood or spend some time playing in the woods you will be investing in a healthier and happier you.
