Wild Child: Winter Play is Building

Winter is filled with chances to play and explore that aren’t the same in other seasons. Whatever your favourite way to play, winter has something to offer. This week we take a peak at the fun of building in winter.

Four preschool children work together to move a very large snowball. A mother watches smiling.

Every year as snow and ice start to appear our Wild child playgroup explodes with examples of creativity and building. Ice collected from puddles takes on a new life as tools, fort windows, and even elements in obstacle courses. Snow inspires grand structures, snow sculptures, and one year an entire system of tunnels.

Several children sit on a snow caterpillar while listening to a story. A facilitator stands holding a book.

The best part? This kind of play is only possible when it get quite cold. So get excited, bundle up, and head outside to have fun before the temperature changes and you miss your chance.
