Wild Child: Winter play is discovering ice

Winter is filled with chances to play and explore that aren’t the same in other seasons. Whatever your favourite way to play, winter has something to offer. Today we take a peak at the fun of playing with and on ice.

Ice provides so many interesting exploration opportunities. It can be smooth or bumpy, fragile or strong, clear or opaque and so much more. You can slide on it or slide things across it. It makes a magical noise as you bang on it and sometimes you can crack it.

For children, there are few things in their experience that are similar to ice and a frozen puddle becomes a world of exploration and curiosity.

Next time you head outside on a cold day, see if you can find some ice to investigate.
