Wild Wednesday: Waterfalls

Last week we explored Wells’ fascination with the caves on our hike but for India, the magic was all in the Falls. She was pretty quiet while we were here, mesmerized by the beauty of Mother Nature. It was on the drive home when all the questions came. Where does the water come from? Where does it go? What animals live in the water? What happens in the winter? Hours and even days later she was still fascinated by this experience with her first waterfall.

While we were at the falls we again explored the difference between risk and danger while she flexed her gross motor skills climbing in, around and behind the water. She was really growing her cognitive skills while she observed so intently everything around her. The learning didn't stop there though, on the drive home, she was developing her questioning skills as she wanted to know more and more about the waterfall. Later that day, we pulled up some maps to try and figure out where this water comes from, and we looked up pictures of waterfalls in the winter. Extending the learning from this experience allowed her to stay engaged in something she was truly curious and excited about. A powerful connection like this will not soon be forgotten, and I have a feeling we may need to plan a trip back sooner rather than later.
